Differences in both ethics and in experience may mean that your dream home experience turns into a nightmare both while it is being built and down the road, a nightmare that could end up costing you an awful lot of money. The number one thing to watch out for with builders and contractors is dishonesty. There are way more shady builders out there than there should be, and the dishonesty comes in many forms. Some will underestimate costs to get the job, and then send the costs through the roof. Some will take a deposit and leave, counting on the costs of a lawsuit to protect them. Some simply don’t know what they are doing! Here are some ways in which you can check up on your builder’s reliability prior to any deals are made:
Check for third party approval. Federations and associations of builders
